Consumer prices increased 0.7% last month, the Labor Department reported today.
It was the second consecutive monthly increase. In May, consumer prices rose 0.1%. But in the last year consumer prices fell 1.4%.
Excluding food and energy costs, the CPI increased 0.2% in June, compared with 0.1% in May. That index increased 1.7% in the past year.

Energy prices rose 7.4% in June, a sharp increase from May's 0.2% hike. Those prices have fallen 25.5% in the past year.
Food prices were unchanged in June after falling 0.2% in May. They have increased 2.1% in the last year.
Transportation prices increased 4.2% in June, a sharp increase from May's figure of 0.8%. Those prices have fallen 13.2% in the past year.
Housing prices were unchanged, following May's decline of 0.1%.Those prices have increased 0.1% in the past year.
Prices for medical care prices increased 0.2%, following a 0.3% rise in May. Those prices have increased 3.2% in the last year.
Education and communication prices increased 0.2% in June, following May's increase of 0.3%. Those prices have risen 3% during the past 12 months.
