The $800 million First Entertainment Credit Union's headquarters is closed today for Michael Jackson's memorial service.
The CU is headquartered on Forest Lawn Drive, just down the street from the cemetery hosting a private service for the late performer, and is running on a skeleton crew today per its disaster plan.
Vice President of Marketing Roy MacKinnon said credit union management didn't decide to close the headquarters building and branch until early this morning, because it was unclear which streets would be closed.
"We posted a pop-up alert on our Web site yesterday," MacKinnon said, "that warned members we expected heavy traffic on Forest Lawn today, and encouraged them to use our other branches or the shared branching network."
However, last night local news networks announced Forest Lawn would be closed to traffic today. This morning, a vice president arrived early to find barricades blocking access to the credit union. Police said they would allow First Entertainment employees past barricades with business cards and ID, but no members.
MacKinnon said to his knowledge, members aren't complaining about the last-minute closure.
"Our membership is in entertainment," he said. "I think they're probably watching it on TV, like everybody else," he said.
