Alabama Telco Credit Union, Birmingham, Ala., announced the hiring of Scott Lazore as branch manager for its new Helena location. Lazore comes from Regions Bank and has been in banking for over five years. The Helena branch marks the sixteenth location for the credit union in the state and the ninth in the Birmingham area.
Redstone Federal Credit Union, Huntsville, Ala., has named Liz Ponder vice president, direct retail. Ponder, who has more than 13 years of experience in the financial services industry, is responsible for the overall management and operations of direct retail, including branch operations, real estate and financial counseling. Her primary focus is in-branch delivery of products and services that meet members' financial needs.
Virginia Credit Union, Richmond, Va., announced that its President/CEO Jane Watkins was named the 2009 Outstanding Woman in Business by the YWCA of Richmond, which cited her leadership of the credit union and its role in promoting financial literacy in the community. Watkins' commitment to this issue led Virginia Credit Union to hire a full-time educator in 2007 to teach financial literacy in schools, colleges and the community. In 18 months, more than 10,900 young people and adults learned money management skills through the credit union's seminars, workshops and classes.
Credit Union of Georgia, Woodstock, Ga., announced the promotion of Rebecca Cooper to director of business development. In her new position, Cooper will be responsible for leading the business development team in identifying and developing opportunities to serve new member groups as well as maintaining relationships with existing member groups. Cooper rejoined the credit union in 2008 as a member solutions representative after having previously worked as its marketing manager.
Insight Financial Credit Union, Orlando, Fla., announced that Sanna S. Henderson has retired after serving on the board of directors for many years. Henderson helped lead the credit union as it grew to 11 branches and was present for the merger of Lake County Schools Credit Union with Bell-Tel Credit Union into Insight Financial Credit Union. Henderson has been active within the community as a Lake County school teacher for almost 20 years and a city commissioner for Leesburg, as well as mayor of Leesburg.
MIDWEST
Consumers Credit Union, Kalamazoo, Mich., promoted Chiron Herweg to office manager of the credit union's Westnedge Avenue office in Portage. He previously worked as a member services representative for Consumers. Herweg, a Kalamazoo resident, is a graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in public relations and is active with Pretty Lake Camp.
WEST
Community Federal Credit Union, Las Vegas, announced the hire of two home loan consultants. Matthew Lorenzen gained five years of experience as Community's mortgage specialist and three years in mortgage lending at other credit unions before transitioning into the Member Advantage Mortgage position. Marcos Espinoza has spent the past six years in the mortgage industry and is active in the Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce. Lorenzen and Espinoza are knowledgeable in all loan programs offered through the credit union and will help borrowers determine which is best for their unique situation.
San Antonio Federal Credit Union, San Antonio, announced that Daniel Lopez has joined its lending team as first vice president and senior business operations manager for mortgage lending. Lopez was the regional business manager for Fannie Mae based in San Antonio for the past 10 years. He previously was an executive director with Habitat for Humanity International, developing and managing affiliates that built and sold homes in rural areas of the United States, Mexico and Honduras.
CommonWealth Central Credit Union, San Jose, Calif., announced that Brian Horiuchi, a registered representative affiliated with broker-dealer and SEC registered investment adviser CUSO Financial Services LP, achieved Silver Pacesetter status in 2008. The award honors the top-producing registered representatives among CFS' 130-plus credit union programs. Horiuchi was credited with generating significant revenue while providing high-quality financial and retirement planning services to CommonWealth members. He has served the credit union membership for over 10 years.
Cyprus Credit Union, Salt Lake City, announced that its Business Development Officer Karen Seo was named 2008's Business Woman of the Year by the West Jordan Chamber of Commerce. Seo was chosen for her significant contributions to the West Jordan community; most notably she served as chair of the chamber's ambassador committee. Seo is a member of the West Jordan Women In Business organization, a board member for Chamberwest, an advisory board member for the Academy of Finance for Granite and Jordan School Districts, and a board member for 100% For Kids credit union charity.
Travis Credit Union, Vacaville, Calif., announced the appointment of Eric Maldonado as community involvement officer. Maldonado will be responsible for managing a positive and visible relationship for Travis Credit Union in Contra Costa County communities by representing the credit union at community and industry-related events and promoting credit union products and services. Additionally, he will serve as a public relations generalist to include advocacy for members and potential members of modest means.
