In a move to educate more lending professionals, the CUNA Lending Council said it has raised its scholarship budget to $125,000 for 2009 from $55,000 in 2008.

According to the council, at least 50 executives will be able to use the scholarships, which are awarded up to $2,500 each. The scholarships can be used toward expenses such as CUNA school tuition, lending council annual dues, conference registration and courses not offered through the trade group.

CUNA Lending Council Chairman Lloyd Gill said the scholarship budget increase comes as credit unions experienced a tough year for lending. Gill is also executive vice president and chief lending officer at $293 million City County Credit Union of Ft. Lauderdale.
