The recent agreement between two credit union organizations known for their work with lower income communities will link one's low-income work with the other's wide ranging credit union relationships.
The National Credit Union Foundation and National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions announced their agreement on June 9. The agreement will focus first on sharing information on approaches to troubled mortgage situations and will build from there, according to Lois Kitsch, national program director for NCUF's REAL Solutions program.
"We each have similar interests and had been looking for a way to work more closely together for some time," explained Kitsch. "We signed the agreement because the federation has such a wealth of research and experience working with credit unions trying to help members resolve troubled mortgages and we have a very strong communications and information link with credit unions."

The REAL Solutions program has agreements signed with 600 credit unions nationwide and has relationships with credit union leagues or trade associations in 34 states, Kitsch said. Another 600 credit unions nationwide have a less formal relationship with the program. "We have the means to get information to credit unions about these issues," she said.
