President Obama today promised to speed up spending of funds allocated by the stimulus bill to create as many as 600,000 new jobs by this summer.
The funds will go for items such as maintenance projects at military bases and approximately 1,600 road and airport projects.
Congress passed a stimulus bill in February.

The announcement came three days after the Labor Department's announcement that the nation's unemployment rate climbed to 9.4% last month and there were 345,000 jobs lost. The number of job losses was about half the monthly average of the past sixth months.
