Three North Dakota credit unions earned three of the top five honors in the champions of affordable housing lender awards from the state’s Housing Finance Agency.Receiving the honors were the $192 million Town and Country Credit Union of Minot, the $282 million First Community Credit Union of Jamestown and the $216 million Capital Credit Union of Bismarck.Together, the three credit unions were responsible for delivering more than 253 of North Dakota’s FirstHome program loans worth a total of $26.5 million.Awards selection includes consideration of loan volume and involvement in locally sponsored affordable housing projects and events, including active participation in community and civic activities.In 2008, Town and Country CU originated 127 loans valued at $13.5 million; First Community produced 70 loans valued at $5.85 million; and Capital CU originated 56 loans valued at $6.9 million. Those numbers put the three among the top nine producers in North Dakota out of 39 active lending partners.In total, the Housing Financial Agency reported that 1,656 North Dakota families were provided with affordable fixed-rate home loans valued at $172.6 million.–[email protected]
