WASHINGTON – Credit Union members, both civilian and military, who are stationed for a time on the South Pacific Island of Guam will soon be able to access their credit union accounts at home-if their home credit unions participate in shared branching.

The Financial Service Centers Cooperative announced at CUNA's Governmental Affairs Conference that the $218 million Government of Guam Federal Credit Union is joining FSCC.

The move is considered particularly timely because the Defense Department has announced plans to sharply increase the numbers of military and civilian personnel, which will be stationed on the island in the future, according to FSCC CEO Sarah Canepa Bang.

"We are delighted to serve Government of Guam Employees Federal Credit Union with FSCC's technology and interface. Shared branching will allow GGFCU to better serve the number of people moving to Guam, as well as the steady stream that leave for travel, medical care or relocation. GGFCU will be expanding locations and serving a significant number of military personnel and their families," said Bang in an announcement of the development.
