ATLANTA — Despite Macy's recent announcement that it will cut 7,000 jobs, Retail Employees Credit Union said it is assuring members that the financial institution will continue to operate.

The $29 million CU has served retail employees since 1938. Macy's job eliminations include 850 in Atlanta, RECU's home base. The CU serves 7,800 members.

"We want to work with our members during these challenging times to improve their financial knowledge, increase their financial options, and provide peace of mind," said RECU President Jeanne Kucey. "While the rest of the economy is uncertain at best, RECU remains a safe harbor for our members."

The CU said it has alliances with 3,500 credit union service centers and access to more than 50,000 surcharge-free ATMs. Kucey said RECU is currently researching ways to provide its members with even more convenience through the addition of branch and ATM networks.
