LINCOLN, Neb. — Aliant Credit Union is putting the finishing touches this month on its merger with Southeast Nebraska FCU of Beatrice, creating the state's 10th largest.

The $66 million Aliant, now with 5,000 members, can offer an expanded menu of services including credit cards, student loans, home banking and enhanced debit cards to both membership groups, said Kenn Miller, president/CEO.

Southeast Nebraska, however, will retain its name and existing management, operating as an affiliate of Aliant.

The merger allows Aliant CU to expand its membership into Gage and Lancaster counties, said Miller.

"For the credit union and its members in the Beatrice area, retaining local ownership was key in the decision-making process, and no doubt one of the reasons the members were so supportive of the endeavor," said Debra Meyer, president/CEO of the $6 million Southeast Nebraska.
