Christian Community Credit Union, San Dimas, Calif., participated in Operation Christmas Child for the second year in a row. Operation Christmas Child is a program of Samaritan's Purse International Relief organization and brings holiday joy to children around the world through gift-filed shoeboxes. The credit union staff donated 154 shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies, hygiene items, clothing and more.

San Antonio Federal Credit Union, San Antonio, invited members, employees and the public to donate canned yams or sweet potatoes to use in the 29th annual Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Day dinner. Employees donated time to help prepare food, serve meals and clean up on Thanksgiving Day. Raul Jimenez, a local restaurateur, started the event in 1979 when he realized that many seniors had no place to go for Thanksgiving dinner. More than 4,000 volunteers provided approximately 25,000 meals on Thanksgiving Day.

US Federal Credit Union, Burnsville, Minn., employees volunteered at the Northfield Armory packing meals for Feed My Starving Children, a nonprofit organization committed to feeding starving children around the world. Over the course of three days, 12 credit union employees joined more than 700 volunteers to help package 171,072 meals consisting of rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and vegetarian chicken flavoring. The Feed My Starving Children initiative will feed about 500 children for one year. The event also brought in over $26,000 from individuals and businesses to help defray the cost of the meals. A single bag of food provides meals for six children and costs approximately $1 to produce.
