WASHINGTON – The consumer price index fell 1.7% last month, the Labor Department reported today.

The CPI was 1.1% higher than in November 2007. In October, consumer prices fell 1%.

Excluding food and energy costs, the CPI was unchanged in November, after falling .1% in October.

Energy prices fell 17%, transportation prices fell 9.8% and clothing prices increased .1%.

Food and beverages, medical care and education increased .2%, and recreation prices were unchanged.

Housing prices fell .1%.
