Point Loma Credit Union, Oceanside, Calif., is reaching out to the underserved in its community by assisting the San Diego County Office of Education's migrant education program. The program is designed to help migrant children's academic achievement. Point Loma is helping the program by providing migrant families with information about financial services available to them and conducting free financial education seminars in English and Spanish for students and their parents.
Community Trust Credit Union, Grayslake, Ill., announced that Chief Financial Officer Carol Analla and Community Relations Coordinator Michelle Fairbanks were among the 400 participants in the 17th annual 5K race and walk to benefit the Grayslake Chamber of Commerce. Also, Community Trust President Madeline Lipka and Branch Manager Leo Castillo Jr. volunteered to work the registration desk and welcome participants.
American Heritage Federal Credit Union, Philadelphia, held an antique and classic car show in partnership with the Northeast Muscle Car Club to benefit American Heritage's Kids-N-Hope Foundation. The foundation supports the music therapy program that the Children's Seashore House in the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Live music and food was available through out the day as well.
Westerra Credit Union, Denver, awarded member Alex Tracy roundtrip airfare for six. Tracy entered into a drawing by opening a certificate of deposit as part of the credit unions family reunion promotion. The promotion was designed to encourage members to refer family and friends to the credit union to open new accounts. Tracy became a member of Westerra because his mother worked at Denver Public Schools. He is attending New York University and saved enough money to open a CD to help with tuition.
OMNI Community Credit Union, Battle Creek, Mich., has devoted a section of its Web site to promote community events. A section of the OMNI Web site called people helping people is dedicated to organizations in southwest Michigan to use to promote upcoming community and charitable events.

North Jersey Federal Credit Union, Totowa, N.J., teamed up with United Way of Passaic County to support their backpacks for kids drive. The program provides needy students with backpacks filled with school supplies. This year United Way committed to providing backpacks and school supplies to all of Paterson School 17. Also, credit union staff donated items that they are not using to those with a greater need. Employees were asked to donate new or gently used casual clothing for both men and women. Eight large bags of clothing plus many pairs of shoes were delivered to the Veteran's Associate of Bristol County.
St. Anne's Credit Union, Fall River, Mass., announced that its employees recently lent a helping hand at the Sacred Heart Parish soup kitchen. Employees either volunteered their time to help serve dinner or made a monetary donation. Employee donations totaled nearly $300 and 16 employees and family members pitched in to serve approximately 150 people.
MAX, Your Community Credit Union, Montgomery, Ala., hosted its first class in a series of seminars focused on youth financial education. Parents and teens ages 12 and up were invited to attend Youth Financial Education 101. The seminar focused on smart money management skills including learning to set financial goals, establishing a savings plan and maintaining a checking account.
The Greater Atlanta Chapter of Credit Unions, Atlanta, held its sixth annual Bowl-A-Thon to raise funds for Children's Miracle Network. Employees from the 61 credit unions that compose the Greater Atlanta Chapter of Credit Unions bowled to support the cause. The funds raised supported the Patient and Family Support Services program at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Support services include chaplaincy, child life specialists, family library, school programs, social work, interpreting/translation services and the Big Apple Circus clown care unit.
Bay Federal Credit Union, Capitola, Calif., announced that's its team of 96 employees raised $5,549 for the American Cancer Society and participated in the relay for life event. Bay Federal was also a major sponsor of the event. The Bay Federal team joined with over 300 citizens and 70 survivors to participate in the event. The team camped out at Cabrillo College in Aptos and took turns walking so that a representative was walking on the track at all times during the 24 hour event. The team also enjoyed ongoing entertainment, food and family activities.
