As a regular reader of Credit Union Times, I always scan the Editor-in-Chief column, usually finding much worth reading. Over the course of the past six months, Credit Union Times has included much coverage of Homes for Our Troops and the involvement of credit unions around the country. Minnesota credit unions have been working diligently to raise funds and donate time to the construction of a home for Sgt. Marcus Kuboy. As a result, the Sept. 3 column and the scarce mention of the Minnesota project left me feeling very discouraged.

During a busy Republican National Convention, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, who has been tremendously busy on the national scene and was, until late August, rumored to be on a short list of Sen. John McCain's potential running mates, attended and spoke at the key ceremony. Gov. Pawlenty talked reverently of Sgt. Kuboy and other members of the military who, like him, sacrifice much for our country. Sgt. Kuboy represented well all servicemen when he graciously accepted the keys to his new home.

Since the Homes for Our Troops project was announced to our state's credit unions in January, it has generated tremendous support and a lot of buzz among our credit unions, and also among our local television and print media, thanks to efforts by the Minnesota Credit Union Network. I hope the Credit Union Times will join me in thanking and congratulating the credit unions of Minnesota for their involvement in this worthy project.
