MADISON, Wis. — In a Hurricane Ike update Monday, CUNA Mutual Group said its on-site catastrophe adjusters continue to have difficulty contacting policy holders because of ongoing search and rescue operations and evacuation orders barring residents returning to their homes.
Nonetheless, CUNA Mutual strongly encourages credit union policyholders that have suffered damages to contact the agency CUNA Mutual disaster phone number at 800-637-2676.
"Our credit union protection claims staff reports that many areas hardest hit are still not accessible," said CUNA Mutual, noting that it is trying to check with policyholders on site that it cannot reach by phone.

Authorities have indicated they will prevent anyone from coming into the affected areas, and so "because of this and problems with communications, it will be some time before we can assess the impact this storm has had on credit unions."
