Capital Communications, Albany, N.Y., held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its newest branch in Cohoes. Assemblyman Ronald Canestrari, Barbara Hildreth, chair of the Business Council of Cohoes of the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce and Cohoes Mayor John T. McDonald III attended the ceremony. The ceremony included a special check presentation to the winners of the Capital Communications Cares Foundation's BIG Benefit Raffle. Beatrice Bohm of Kings Park, N.Y., won the $10,000 grand prize. Carrie Shumate and Kristin Stanolind of Midland, Texas, won the $5,000 prize. Five $1,000 winners were Ed DerGurhian of Troy, N.Y., Robert Meier of Standisfield, Mass., Steve Nissen of Niskayuna, N.Y., Nic Marini of

Guilderland, N.Y., and Lynn Radz of Duanesburg, N.Y. The foundation is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year and has given more than $700,000 in monetary and in-kind donations and more than 7,500 volunteer hours to various charities and organizations.

America First Credit Union, Salt Lake City, announced the grand opening of its Salt Lake City State Street branch. The branch is the 79th America First branch. American First named Brian Brand as the manager of the new branch. Brand started with America First in 1999 as a teller at the Midvale Harmons branch.

Merced School Employees Federal Credit Union, Merced, Calif., held the grand re-opening of its newly remodeled 29,500 square foot headquarters on Olivewood Drive in Merced. The celebration included an open house, ribbon cutting and building dedication ceremony. The new main branch features a multi-station teller line, member service representatives, loan department, real estate department, children's area, ATM, investment center, auto broker, multiple conference rooms, media plasma screens, safe deposit boxes, four drive-up tellers and a drive-up ATM. Over 600 members and guests attended the celebration. Rooms were dedicated to two men who were instrumental in starting the credit union, William DeSimone and Robert Wayne. The Golden Valley High School Band played music outside to greet guests as they arrived. Guests were given the opportunity to tour the remodeled building and ask staff any questions. Refreshments, entertainment and prizes including $500 in cash, a 32-inch HDTV and a digital camera were given out. A gift was also distributed to everyone who attended.

Public Service Credit Union, Detroit, held the grand opening for its student-run branch in Cass Tech High School. Public Service is one of the first financial institutions to have a student-run branch in a Detroit public high school. The branch will serve students, faculty, staff and parents of students at Cass Tech. Festivities at the grand opening included performances by the Cass Tech percussion and songs from the Cass Tech recent performance of "Hairspray."

Truliant Federal Credit Union, Winston-Salem, N.C., announced that it is building its 25th member financial center in Greensboro, N.C. The facility will be Truliant's second Greensboro location. Technology at the new location will include plasma screen televisions with a live feed of news, weather and cable programming and Videolink, a live video teleconference system that will allow members to quickly apply for and complete a loan at an interactive kiosk. The location will feature a 24-hour no-surcharge ATM and an electronic information kiosk where members will be able to access account information, make transfers, receive product and service information and view loan payment information. The member financial center is set to be completed later this year.

Sooper Credit Union, Denver, celebrated the grand re-opening of its newly acquired and remodeled branch in Colorado Springs. In November of 2007, Sooper merged with Fitters Local 58 Federal Credit Union and began to utilize the branch at that time. Refreshments, snacks and giveaways were handed out to members and community residents that attended. Each attendee was also able to register to win a Nintendo Wii. The event was attended by Sooper President/CEO Dan Kester, Board Chairman Dale Rutt, Director Donna Dilorio and the entire executive management team.
