Verizon Wireless Lists Two CUs Among Mobile Banking Providers
BASKING RIDGE, N.J. — Verizon Wireless wants to get this message out: The phone company is now providing the mobile banking.
The telecom giant last week began promoting the availability of mobile banking on some of its popular BlackBerrys and Get It Now-capable phones, and two credit unions are among the financial institutions partnering with the telecommunications giant to provide it.
The Verizon Wireless customers must bank with Utah's America First Credit Union or Seattle-based BECU on the credit union side, or Wachovia, Regions, SunTrust, USAA, Synovus, Arvest, Bancorp South, FirstBank or South Financial on the for-profit banking side to use the service.
Users receive a secure initialization code to access the mobile banking application preloaded on their phones after they sign up for mobile banking at their financial institutions' online banking site.
Capabilities include account balance and transaction history, transfers and bill pay. Verizon Wireless and the financial institutions are using the mobile banking platform from Qualcomm subsidiary Firethorn.
Northwest Federal CU Hires Ex-Agents' Anti-Identity Theft Firm
HERNDON, Va. — Northwest Federal Credit Union has signed on with a new identity theft protection and detection company.
Washington-based iSekurity began business earlier this year and includes more than 100 former federal agents–from the Secret Service, FBI, IRS, ATF, Customs and the Postal Service–on its staff.
The company offers identity theft protection services that also includes investigations focused on finding the perpetrators.
"iSekurity's identity theft philosophy and comprehensive service plan fits squarely within this approach, and we are thrilled to commence this strategic partnership," said Gerrianne Burks, president/CEO of $1.5 billion NWFCU.
The credit union said it plans to include seminars and other outreach in its work with the new firm.
Susan Kampe, CEO of iSekurity (www.isekurity.com), said, "iSekurity's partnership with Northwest Federal Credit Union has inherent synergy that will bode well for its members. Many of the credit union's members work in the government intelligence community, so there is unique alignment given iSekurity's past federal agency experience."
