DENVER — Both Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama and likely GOP nominee John McCain say they want to make changes to the status quo regarding mortgage buyers Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

"I think long-term what we have to do is, we have to go ahead and make a decision, if these are public entities, then maybe they ought to get out of the profit-making business. And if they're private entities we don't bail them out."

McCain, who has been a longtime critic of Fannie and Freddie, said if the government has to bail out the mortgage giants, it should fire the management teams of the mortgage giants.
