AmeriChoice Federal Credit Union, Mechanicsburg, Pa., supported a young member in the 2008 York Arthritis Walk. Americhoice raised $425 for the walk in support of Dakota Boring, age 11. Boring is a AmeriChoice Dollar Dog Kids Club member and participated in the walk for the third year in a row. Boring's seven-year battle with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis led him to become an advocate for other arthritis sufferers. He was named the 2007 junior volunteer of the year by the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation and attended the National Arthritis Summit in Washington, where he met Congressman Todd Platts in support of the Arthritis Prevention, Control and Cure Act.

South Division Credit Union, Evergreen Park, Ill., announced that its main branch receptionist Dianne Struglinski organized a collection and fundraising effort to send care packages to American troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. For two months, Struglinksi had members drop by a wide variety of useful gifts and monetary donations. She collected everything from Frisbees to face wash, dental floss and fly swatters. She was able to put together four large boxes of items to send oversees.

Advance Financial Credit Union, Schererville, Ind., hosted a trip for its "Better Than 50 Club" to the Chicago Botanic Garden. The trip was open to 49 people for club members and adult family members and friends. The Botanic Gardens features 23 display gardens and three native habitats situation on nine islands surrounded by lakes. The trip included a luxury charter bus, parking, unlimited access to the display gardens, a professional guided tram tour, lunch in a reserved private dining area and a 10% discount in the Garden Shop.

Founders Federal Credit Union, Lancaster, S.C., hosted pizza parties for all its students enrolled in its in-school credit unions. Students enrolled at North Elementary, Brooklyn Springs Elementary, McDonald Green Elementary, Heath Springs Elementary, Ebenezer Avenue Elementary and Cheraw Intermediate School all received pizza parties. Students were given pizza, drinks and a visit from Daniel the Spaniel, Founders Kids Club's mascot. Students are able to deposit money in their school branch during the week and receive a gift with their initial deposit and a free customized T-shirt when they reach a balance of $25 and become a member of the Daniel the Spaniel Club.

Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Bethpage, N.Y., was the lead sponsor at the directors circle level for the New York Philharmonic Free Concert. The concert celebrated its 31st anniversary and has become the largest public event on Long Island. Last year, over 65,000 attended the event. This years event featured Bach's "Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor" and Elgar's "Enigma Variations." A display of fireworks by Grucci was presented after the concert. Xian Zhang, the New York Philharmonic's associate conductor, led the orchestra. Sheryl Staples and Michelle Kim were violin soloists.

Pacific Service Credit Union, Fresno, Calif., sponsored the Diabetic Youth Foundation's annual dinner this year. The fundraising dinner included a silent and live auction, entertainment and baseball activities. The Diabetic Youth Foundation provides support and education for those affected by diabetes. The organization works to teach more than 1,200 children and their parents techniques that can be used to reduce and eliminate the complications associated with diabetes.

Freedom Federal Credit Union, Bel Air, Md., partnered with Junior Achievement of Central Maryland to deliver a Junior Achievement program to students at Ring Factory Elementary School. The program teaches real-life business and financial lessons to students in kindergarten through 5th grade. The program was conducted in every classroom this past spring. Freedom Federal is the major supporter of the program and also provided its employees as teachers. Ring Factor classroom teachers, volunteer parents and community volunteers joined Freedom employees to dedicate their time to a five session class, designed for each grade and age level.

Santa Ana Federal Credit Union, Santa Ana, Calif., announced that its members and the surrounding community were invited to get autographs and take pictures with cast members from Disney's High School Musical on Tour. Characters in the show, Taylor McKessie, Kelsi Nielson, Jack Scott, Ryan Evans and Ms. Darbus arrived on a fire engine to a crowd of 200 fans. Santa Ana FCU provided free coffee for the parents and literature promoting their new teen program and youth accounts. One member also one tickets to High School Musical on Tour.

Team One Credit Union. Saginaw, Mich., announced that its employees have joined together to form the Team One community impact team. The team has established a goal of 1,000 total hours of volunteer service to be reached by the end of this year. Events include relay-for-life and the adopt-a-highway program. Team members choose when and how to serve their hours.
