Westerra Credit Union, Denver, offered its members a free family field trip at Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum. The event was in celebration of the Lowry Federal Credit Union that originated at the Lowry Air Force Base in the 1950s and the fifth anniversary of Westerra's Lowry branch. Members had to opportunity to see the new Colorado astronauts exhibit, view a moon rock and tour the entire museum.
Langley Federal Credit Union, Newport News, Va., hosted its first car pool day to help employees save money and to benefit the environment. Staff that carpooled or walked to work was registered tow in a cash deposit and was able to dress down for the day. Car pool drivers also received $10 from Langley FCU. Staff that walked to work received $5.
Saugus Federal Credit Union, Saugus, Mass., sponsored and hosted a community blood drive for the American Red Cross at its main office. All who donated blood at the drive were eligible to enter a drawing to win Red Sox tickets as the Red Cross blood donor of the day.

Arlington Virginia Federal Credit Union, Arlington, Va., teamed up with Arlington Food Assistance Center for its annual summer food drive. Employees collected 106 pounds of food for local families in need. The annual food drive is part of Arlington Virginia's community outreach. The credit union also promotes financial education in local schools, supports Children's Miracle Network through the annual Credit Union Cherry Blossom ten-mile run and has employees volunteer in organizations in and around Arlington during the Arlington Virginia FCU-wide volunteer day.
Contra Costa Federal Credit Union, Concord, Calif., set up a booth at the 19th annual KidFest at Todos Santos Plaza. KidFest provides parents and kids ages three to 13 a place for activities and fun. The event features four different stages with dancing and singing, face painting and arts and crafts. Contra Costa handed out items to members, potential members and their families.
SEFCU, Albany, N.Y., partnered with the American Red Cross Adirondack Saratoga Chapter to sponsor a community blood drive as part if its "give 'n' take drive." The theme for the drive was "give some red and help save some green." SEFCU planted a tree for ever donor who gave blood that day. The drive was one in a series of drives within the give 'n' take campaign, which schedules community based blood drives throughout the calendar year. The Red Cross chapter also recruits local recipients and donors within a specific community.
OnPoint Community Credit Union, Portland, Ore., featured a supermarket sweep at the grand opening of three branches in Vancouver, Wash. The sweep resulted in free groceries for three area residents and a cash donation of $5,769 to help local food banks. One customer at each of the three branches won a chance to race through Safeway stores at Andresen, Burton and Salmon Creek for three minutes and fill their carts with as many grocery items as possible. The Salmon Creek branch winner walked away with $2,359 worth of groceries. Winners at the Burton and Andresen branches swept $2,147 and $1,263 worth of groceries. OnPoint matched the total value of the supermarket sweep groceries and donated a check for $5,769 to Vancouver's NW Harvest South organization.
Black Hills Federal Credit Union, Rapid City, S.D., announced the winners of its ViBZ! photo contest. Black Hills received 48 photos from area teens that ranged widely in subject matter and creativity. The contest was open to all teen members with a ViBZ! account, a program which educated teens about managing their finances. Three winners were selected as well as three honorable mentions due to the amount of exceptional photographs that were received. The winners were: Darran Scott, who was awarded $75, Whitney Kyne, who was awarded $50 and Lauren Harrington, who was awarded $25. The honorable mentions were: Jordin Bordeaux-Morris, Laura Swan and Nicole Sowards, who each were awarded a $15 iTunes gift card.
Community Resource Federal Credit Union, Colonie, N.Y., hosted the third annual community resource father's day 5K Run and fun run for kids in association with Hudson Mohawk Road Runners Club. The event featured 274 adult and 80 children participants and raised $7,456 to help Capital District Community Gardens. Community Resource also donated two airline tickets to anywhere in the United States for a raffle. The winner of the 3.1 mile race was Anthony Giuliano of Albany with a time of 16 minutes, 10 seconds.
