NEW YORK — The National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions has recently completed its 2008 board of directors elections.
Director positions with three-year terms were available in each of the federation's four regions and in the at-large director category. An additional one-year term position was available in Region 4 (West), filling a previous vacancy.
NRS Community Development FCU CEO Eunice J. Rogers was re-elected as a regional director for Region 2 (South) and will continue to serve as board chairman of the federation. She is joined on the executive committee by Vice Chairman Randy Chambers, chief financial officer of Self-Help CU; Treasurer Helen Godfrey Smith, CEO of Shreveport FCU, re-elected in the at-large director category; Corresponding Secretary Lynda Milton, CEO of Houston Teamsters, re-elected as region 3 (Mid-west) director; and new Recording Secretary Deyanira Del Rio, chairman of the Lower East Side Peoples' FCU, a sitting Region 1 (Northeast) director.

Newly elected board members included Shirley Spruill, CEO of Renaissance Community Development CU, elected as a regional director for Region 1 (Northeast), and Ginger McNally, CEO of Santa Cruz Community CU, elected as a regional director for Region 4.
Marvin Jensen, board member of Episcopal Community FCU was re-elected as a regional director to complete the remaining term of a vacancy in Region 4.
Afena FCU's Shafer Retires
MARION, Ind. — For 30 years Afena Federal Credit Union Board Member Terry Shafer has been working to make the credit union the resource locals turn to for their financial needs.
Since joining in 1978, Shafer's dedication to credit union service has helped Afena FCU consistently increase its membership, grow its deposits and add innovative products and services to its offerings.
"I've always believed that the harder the work, the greater the reward," said Shafer, who enjoyed a 24-year career in production at GM, is now enjoying his much deserved retirement. "Being involved with the credit union over the past three decades has taught me the importance of financial planning and preparation. So now I can just relax and enjoy retirement with my wife Brenda and our extended family."
Shafer's family includes children Terry Jr., Nancy, Julie and Amy, five grandchildren and one great grandchild–who keep him busy rooting for their sports teams. He is also active with his church, coaching upward basketball and enjoys walking and trail biking.
