Texans Credit Union, Dallas, announced that DeLeonard Fincher was awarded the company volunteer coordinator of the year award from the annual Junior Achievement Dallas business hall of fame. The hall of fame award is presented by Accenture, Fulbright & Jaworski LLP and Chase. Fincher has increased the number of volunteers at Texans CU each year and led the company to be the first credit union in Texas to adopt a high school. The hall of fame celebrates the best of the best in the Dallas business community.
Missoula Federal Credit Union, Missoula, Mont., received United Way of Missoula County's fourth annual community spirit Award. The award honors Missoula-area businesses for outstanding volunteer and philanthropic service to the community, including United Way. Missoula FCU employees give to the community through a payroll deduction program. Employees have committed to donated more than $15,000 in 2008. Missoula encourages employees to volunteer in the community by offering four hours of paid volunteer time per year. A staff committee also organizes volunteer teams for a variety of programs and events throughout the year.
Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, Broomall, Pa., was recognized by the Delaware County Attorney's officer for their work in helping to protect Delaware County senior citizens against elder abuse, particularly fraud and financial exploitation. Each year, the credit union holds special training session for personnel that cover security and safety issues. This year, elder abuse was the special session. Employees from our 26 branch offices were educated on elder abuse and the steps they should take if elder abuse is suspected.

Members First Credit Union, Columbus, Ohio, awarded two Grandview Heights High School seniors with the first Members First Credit Union leadership awards. The two recipients were Andrew Schofield and Emily Thomas. Both were presented with a check for $500 and a plaque recognizing their demonstration of leadership. The leadership award honors two seniors who have exemplified the qualities of leadership in school, at home in the community and beyond.
Consumers Credit Union, Kalamazoo, Mich., was selected as one of West Michigan's 101 best and brightest companies to work for by the Michigan Business and Professional Association. Consumers also earned a special award in the category of recognition and retention. Upon being nominated for the award, Consumers completed an extensive questionnaire and employees were randomly surveyed about their work environment.
Discovery Federal Credit Union, Wyomissing, Pa., was honored at the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce and Industry's 95th annual dinner as one of the top 50 businesses in Greater Reading. The Greater Reading top 50 is an awards program sponsored by the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce and Industry and KPMG, the consulting firm. The top 50 ranks companies by revenue growth. Companies nominate themselves and supply the last three years of financial data. KPMG analyzes the results and creates the list of the top 50.
Diamond Credit Union, Pottstown, Pa., was also honored at the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce and Industry's 95h annual dinner as one of the top 50 businesses in Greater Reading. Diamond Credit Union placed 19th on the list. This was the second year Diamond participated in the program and placed in the top 20.
Wauna Federal Credit Union, Vernonia, Ore., announced that its Vernonia branch was honored by the Vernonia Chamber of Commerce with the business of the year award. The award is voted on by the members of the chamber and is based on the businesses contribution to the community. The Vernonia branch participates in events held by the chamber that include the annual Scarecrow competition and most of the parades in town.
Charter Oak Federal Credit Union, Groton, Conn., recognized Wayne Burgess of Norwich and John Russell of New London for going far and beyond in the area of giving back to the community. Burgess serves on the boards of the Gemma Moran United Way/Labor Food Center, Electric Boat Community Services Association and was most recently named to serve on Charter Oak's supervisory committee. Russell has focused the greater part of the last four years providing the area's homeless with funding and services to help them regain their status as contributing members of the community. Russell is a member of the Covenant Shelter board of directors, the New London Homeless Hospitality Center board of directors and volunteers often at the St. James Homeless Shelter and Drop In Center. He is also a 10 year member of Charter Oak's advisory board and a member of the SCCT management committee.
