Georgetown Kraft Credit Union, Georgetown,S.C., awarded five area high school students $1,000scholarships. The scholarship can be used to offset the cost oftuition, books or room and board at any two or four-year college. Afour-person committee comprised of Georgetown Kraft volunteersselected the recipients based on their academic and extracurricularactivities at school, community involvement, services, work andleadership experience. The recipients were: Brian Owners of CarversBay High School who will be attending Francis Marion University,Philip Russell of Waccamaw high School who will be attending theUniversity of South Carolina, Garrett Swann of Georgetown HighSchool who will be attending Clemson University, CourtneyWashington of Hemingway High School who will be attending ColumbiaCollege and Brittany Watson of Carvers Bay High School who will beattending Clemson University.

Delta Community Credit Union, Atlanta, gave$5,000 scholarships to three first-time college freshmen. Over 200applications were judged based on scholastic achievement,leadership, community involvement, a personal essay and membershipin Delta Community. In addition to the scholarships, DeltaCommunity awarded the top three runners-up a laptop computer. Thescholarship winners and runners-up were: Amy Evans fromFayetteville, Ga. who plans to attend the University of Georgia inthe fall and major in chemistry, Erich Hodges from Brush Prairie,Wash., who plans to attend Iowa State University and enter thepre-veterinary program and Godfrey Ilonzo III from Atlanta whoplans to attend Harvard University and major in molecular cellularbiology, Jordan Krenz from Marietta, Ga., who plans to attend theUniversity of Georgia to major in history and law, Seth Ramey fromDenton, Texas, who plans to attend Southern Methodist University tomajor in business and broadcasting and Amanda Snekszer fromAcworth, Ga., who plans to attend Johns Hopkins University andmajor in biomedical engineering.
