Pen Air Federal Credit Union, Pensacola, Fla., participated in a Moneywise in the Military workshop at Gulf Coast's U.S. Navy Installations to teach financial readiness tools to area military personnel. Kelvin Boston, host of Public Broadcasting Service's series "Moneywise with Kelvin Boston," spoke at the event. Pen Air CEO/President John Davis assisted with the event and addressed financial literacy questions. Director of the Better Business Bureau Military Line Holly Petraeus presented tools for making wise consumer choices. Young America's Financial Coach Peter Bielagus also presented real-life examples of the importance of learning to manage money at an early age. The event ended with a question and answer session where Pen Air responded to attendee concerns.

Retail Employees Credit Union, Atlanta, volunteered at the 2008 Atlanta Special Olympics at Emory University. Employees cheered for more than 2,000 athletes from around the state of Georgia as they competed in aquatics, soccer, volleyball, tennis, gymnastics and track and field. Special Olympics is the world's largest year-round program of sports training and competitions for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Foothill Federal Credit Union, Arcadia, Calif., hosted a Member Appreciation Day for its members. Members were provided a free lunch at all three branch locations. Foothill also held a free shred day in partnership with Shred Pos. Members were invited to bring in their old statements, tax returns, bills or any paperwork with sensitive information. An on-site shredding truck provided secure shredding and disposal of the documents. Also, Foothill celebrated its 50th anniversary at its annual meeting. Members, staff and board members turned out in record numbers. Attendees got to view a video presentation of "Exceeding Expectations: A Testimony of Great Service" an overview of Foothill's history, accomplishments and plans for the future.

Corporate Central Credit Union, Muskego, Wis., hosted its fourth annual credit union day at the ballpark event with all proceeds benefiting Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. The game will be held on Sunday, July 13 at Miller Park in Milwaukee. The Milwaukee Brewers have partnered with Corporate Central to provide a portion of the ticket sales to Children's Hospital. Corporate Central's business partners will help sponsor the tailgate. Last year there were more than 750 credit union employees and members of credit unions through out the Midwest in attendance.

Philadelphia Federal Credit Union, Philadelphia, held its first annual shredding day. Members and residents of the community were encouraged the gather their old documents and bring them to the event. Over 100 cars arrived at the event and Philadelphia FCU collected 5,780 pounds of paper. The paper will be recycled to help save trees, water and oil.

American 1 Federal Credit Union, Jackson, Mich., sponsored and organized the 2008 rose parade. A party in the park event at the county fairgrounds center had free entertainment and kids activities for thousands of Jackson residents. In a deal with the fairground, American 1 will have sponsorship of the 14,000 square foot community facility that hosts flea markets, wedding receptions and many American 1 events. American 1 will pay annual installments of $10,000 for the first five years and $12,500 for the last five years for sponsorship that includes new signs, a no-surcharge ATM onsite for all event center events and renaming the facility the American 1 Event Center. American 1 is the first major sponsor to sign on to sponsor the fairgrounds.

Hanscom Federal Credit Union, Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., collected 3,175 books for the Massachusetts Credit Union League's 2008 statewide children's book drive. Hanscom contributes to the drive every year and dozens of credit unions help the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless put books in front of children in shelters, hospitals and other non-profits through out the state. This year's collection more than doubled last year's total. The leagues eight-year total for the drive is now close to 200,000 books.
