WASHINGTON — President Bush has nominated Sandy K. Baruah to become the next administrator at the Small Business Administration.
Baruah currently serves as assistant secretary for economic development at the Department of Commerce. Prior to this, he served as the department's chief of staff.
The next step for Baruah is confirmation by the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

NCUA Vice Chairman Rodney Hood praised Bush's choice to potentially succeed Steven Preston, who became the new secretary of the Housing and Urban Department in June.
"Mr. Baruah excelled in his role as Assistant Secretary of EDA and will move on leaving behind a legacy of merit," Hood said. "I believe that his dedication to creating jobs and economic opportunity, coupled with his focus on competition, innovation and entrepreneurship, make Mr. Baruah very well suited to assume the responsibilities and further excel in the role of SBA Administrator."
