NEW YORK — CUNA President Dan Mica drew upon the wisdom of Bob Dylan when urging members of the credit union movement to keep what's good about the past while embracing the future.
"If we say we're going to fight for the status quo, I tell you, we'll lose," Mica said at today at CUNA's America's Credit Union Conference and Expo.
He urged the audience to keep in mind the lyrics of Dylan's famous song "The Times They Are A Changing." Dylan debuted the song at Carnegie Hall, which is three blocks from the site of this convention.

Mica also said, that despite the current problems facing the banking industry credit unions shouldn't be hoping for the demise of banks because that would have a far reaching impact on the economy. "We should pray that they get wisdom," Mica said.
Mica said change will be especially prevalent in Washington in the months and years ahead. He predicted that if current trends continue the democrats will increase their majorities in the House Senate and that will mean they will have less of a need to compromise with republicans on important issue including those that are relevant to the CU movement.
He also said that even though all the polls show Barack Obama ahead of John McCain that could shift before the November election. He noted that four years ago at this time Kerry was ahead of Bush in polls.
