SAN DIEGO — Ernst and Young has named Valorie Seyfert, CEO of CUSO Financial Services LP, as its Ernst and Young's 2008 entrepreneur of the year in the business services category for the San Diego region and Dave Serlo, president/CEO of PSCU Financial Services for the Florida region.
In accepting the award during a June 9 award ceremony, Seyfert acknowledged the invaluable contributions of her co-founder and business partner, Amy Beattie, and recognized the accomplishments of CFS' management and staff.
"I'm honored that Ernst and Young has recognized our dedication and achievements in providing needed services to credit unions," Seyfert said. "This has truly been a team effort, and without Amy it never would have happened. It is because of the talents, hard work and dedication of all our employees that my vision became a reality, and that CFS continues to be the success it is today."

"Ernst & Young is pleased to honor outstanding business leaders like Valorie Seyfert," said Irene Veca, program director for San Diego for the Ernst & Young awards. "Winners build leading businesses and contribute a great deal to the communities around them. Their success helps our area grow stronger."
Serlo received the 2008 Ernst and Young Florida entrepreneur of the year award at a June 5 award ceremony in Orlando. Serlo was recognized for building and leading PSCU Financial with more than 1,450 employees, $564.8 million in annual sales, assets of $282.2 million and three locations across the United States.
In presenting the award, Ernst and Young made particular note of Serlo's foresight in seeing the value of credit union ownership of the company over a decade before the CUSO model became a standard in the credit union industry. As part of this cooperative structure, the organization returns multi-million-dollar dividends to its member-owners every year.
Both Seyfert and Serlo are now eligible for consideration for the Ernst and Young entrepreneur of the year 2008 national program. Award winners in several national categories, as well as the overall national award winner, will be announced at the annual awards gala in Palm Springs, Calif., on Nov.15
The Ernst and Young awards celebrate their 22nd anniversary this year. The program honors entrepreneurs who have demonstrated exceptionality in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.
