MIRAMAR, Fla. — Eastern Financial Florida Credit Union has raised $53,000 at its annual charity golf tournament, Swing 4 the Kids.
A number of local business professionals and former NFL players, such as the Miami Dolphins Dwight Stevenson and Shawn Wooden, took part in the event that benefits the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Broward County. Money raised will be used to underwrite the cost for the nonprofit to place 60 children with adult mentors.
Capital Lending Solutions and Allied Strategies were title sponsors of the golf tournament.
Money was also raised by a silent and live auction that took place at a dinner following the tournament. Some special items included four roundtrip airfare vouchers good for any destination in the United States, a weeklong cruise on Carnival Cruise Lines, autographed Dolphin footballs, a Green Bay Packers' Brett Favre collection and a Bill Murray Caddy Shack framed montage.
Eastern Financial organizes a golf tournament each year to benefit a South Florida charity that focuses on children. Since its inception, Swing 4 the Kids has netted more than $200,000 for such nonprofits like The United Way Children's Fund, His House, the Haven and the Starting Place.
All paid golf participants received a free pair of Maui Jim sunglasses and a chance to win a brand new car with a hole-in-one. Auto Advisors, Auto Nation and JM Family each put up a car for the hole-in-one contest. This year, non-golfers had a chance to participate in the fundraiser by taking part in a Spa Day at Parkland Golf & Country Club's exclusive Spa Cielo.
