First Future Credit Union, San Diego, announced that credit union employees, volunteers and members raised nearly $220,000 to help credit union members that were affected by the wildfires in Southern California last fall. The first grants from CU Aid, the centralized disaster relief fundraising system activated during the fires by the NCUF and the California Credit Union League, were completed in the San Diego area. First Future Credit Union members Daniel and September Katje and Shirleen Miller both received grants ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 to help begin their rebuilding efforts. The checks were presented by NCUF Chairman Mary Cunningham.

Pittsford Federal Credit Union, Pittsford, N.Y., promoted the use of eStatements through its program "It Pays to Go Green." Each member that chose to suspend paper statements before Arbor Day had the opportunity to win one of ten green prizes, which was $100 in cash. Pittsford FCU also had one tree planted for each member that chose electronic statements instead of receiving paper statements.

Merrimack Valley Federal Credit Union, Lawrence, Mass., announced that its branches and employees at the Corporate Office have been supporting Hearts for Charities. Hearts are sold for $1 to members and employees and the proceeds go to Emmaus Inc. and Merrimack Valley YMCA. Over 425 hearts have been sold so far and the Lawrence branch alone has sold over 300 hearts.

Pacific Service Credit Union, Walnut Creek, Calif., has donated $5,000 to Elder Financial Protection Network for the sixth year in a row. Elder Financial Protection Network is based in San Francisco and works to prevent financial abuse of elders through partnerships that build public awareness, drive community outreach and provide professional training.

The New York State Credit Union League, Latham, N.Y., joined with Sunmark Federal Credit Union and Suffolk Federal Credit Union to donate $3,000 to the Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center. The donation was part of proceeds accumulated by the credit unions as part of the league's "Credit Unions Care for Kids" 2007 campaign. The campaign is part of the league's statewide community involvement program. Credit unions from across the state raise funds and collect items to be donated to the local children's charity of their choice.

Point West Credit Union, Portland, Ore., raised over $9,000 for Credit Unions for Kids and the Children's Miracle Network in the past eight months. Staff and members helped raise the funds by selling candy bars, hosting fundraising dinners and events, and selling raffle tickets for items such as gift baskets, flat screen televisions and barbeques. In Oregon and Washington, around 60 credit unions have collectively raised over $8 million dollars through the Credit Unions for Kids program to benefit Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, and the pediatric units of Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene and Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford.

Florida Credit Union League, Tallahassee, Fla., announced the President Guy Hood received a $2,500 check from NCUF Chairman Allan McMorris in recognition of winning the American Association of Credit Union Leagues' Eugene H. Farley League Leadership Award. Hood announced that he would donated all the money to the Florida Credit Union Foundation to help provide NCUFs Real Solutions program in Florida.

Champion Credit Union, Canton, N.C., supported the Special Olympics of Haywood County by having its own tent on-site at this years Race Day. Champion CU volunteers encouraged participating athletes by serving water and Gatorade. Inside the tent pizza and other refreshments was provided. Prior to Race Day, Champion CU organized bake sales to raise money for the event.

Keys Federal Credit Union, Key West, Fla., presented two checks for $500 to the Key West Police Departments Officer of the Year Ashley Clevenger and Civilian of the Year Mary Canalejo. Key West FCU congratulated Officer Clevenger and Mary Canalejo for their contributions to the department and the Key West community.
