BEDFORD, Ind. — An Indiana credit union is finding success helping another local cooperative get on its feet.

The $313 million Hoosier Hills Credit Union has helped fund the Lost River Market and Deli, a cooperative grocery and food operation located in the nearby community of Paoli.

“When we first heard about the project we weren't sure we wanted to be involved in a grocery store,” remarked Doug Pittman, senior commercial lender for the CU. “But then you meet the people and see how dedicated they are to this project. Plus, it just makes good sense: one co-op helping another co-op.”

Lost River has been a project for over two years that recently passed the milestone of signing up its 500th member and recently saw 75 of its members show up for its second annual membership meeting. The market is dedicated to serving communities in Orange County and makes a point of seeking to both sign up new consuming members and establishing relationships with local growers.
