In light of the economy’s current situation, many credit unions have cut back on credit card offerings. But times like this should actually be seen as an opportunity for credit unions to be there for their members and strengthen loyalty. For years, credit unions have operated under the philosophy of people helping people. With the current economic situation, it is clear that our members need us, and we should be there for them.

When you look at what the big banks are doing with their credit card portfolios, you can see the distinct advantage that credit unions have to build that loyalty with their members. A recent article in USA Today reported the following:

-In mid-April, Bank of America will start charging 3% for balance transfers rather than capping fees at $75 to $100 on some cards.
