WASHINGTON — Recognizing the alliances between credit unions and small businesses, NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson is joining the Small Business Administration in the marking of National Small Business Week, which kicks off April 21.
“NCUA promotes a credit union environment that fosters the entrepreneurial spirit for credit union members while maintaining a safe and sound credit union system,” Johnson said. “I strongly support President Bush for fostering an economic and regulatory framework that gives credit unions the flexibility to provide affordable capital to its member-owners.”
Johnson highlighted the work NCUA and SBA have done together including the facilitation of Webinar programs on business lending services and SBA's loan programs. Credit unions have also demonstrated a strong commitment to small businesses through the promotion of individual development accounts, business development seminars and micro-enterprise lending, she added.
“I encourage credit unions to continue providing prudent and responsible member business lending products that help member-owners establish viable businesses, create jobs and sustain local communities,” Johnson said.
