Diamond Credit Union, Pottstown, Pa., received the Peoples' Choice Credit Union honor from Berks County Living magazine. This is the second consecutive year Diamond CU has received the honor. The Peoples' Choice Who's Who In Business (Berks County) award was conducted by Polk-Lepson Research Group of York through random and geographically dispersed telephone surveys.

Security Service Federal Credit Union, Colorado Springs, Colo., honored 75 Purple Heart recipients stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado at a Colorado College versus Air Force Academy hockey match. Security Service FCU held a ceremony during the game's intermission to recognize the soldiers for their hard work and dedication. Patrons also had the opportunity to take a shot at a Security Service FCU employee stand-in goalie.

South Division Credit Union, Evergreen Park, Ill., was awarded the financial service industry's 5-Star Superior Performance Rating by Bauer Financial Reports, Inc. for the sixth time in recent years and the second consecutive year. The Bauer rating program independently analyzes the financial condition of the nation's credit unions, banks, and other federally insured primary financial institutions. Receiving a 5-Star rating confirms that a credit union is financially sound and operating well above its regulatory capital requirements.

Heritage Credit Union, Madison, Wis., announced that its Chetek branch has won the third annual Branch of the Year Gold award. The award is given to one of Heritage CUs seven branches that demonstrate exceptional performance in 12 key areas. The Ladysmith branch was the recipient of the Branch of the Year Silver award.

Lockhead Federal Credit Union, Burbank, Calif., was ranked the number one company in the medium-sized company category of the "California's Best Places to Work" program fro 2007. This was the first-ever best workplace program exclusively for California employers and it was sponsored by Employers Group. Lockhead FCUs ranking was based on the blind scoring of more than 400 companies' responses to a survey of employers and employees in nine categories that included work-life balance, pay, benefits, training and advancement opportunities, diversity programs, turnover, perks, employee voice and workplace culture, and community involvement.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Ledge Light Federal Credit Union, Groton, Conn., will be awarding four graduating high school seniors with $500 to use for an accredited two-year or four-year college, technical, vocational, or business college. Applicants must be graduating high school seniors and remain in good standing with Ledge Light FCU and only those with notice of acceptance to a chosen post secondary school will be accepted. Deadline for applications is April 30.

United Educational Credit Union, Battle Creek, Mich., launched its first class of the National Endowment for Financial Education High School Financial Planning Program for youth who are members of the Team Green program. Thirteen area teen members participated in the day-long program. The program was taught by United Educational staff members Tara Reniger and Joan Miller, and United Educational members Julie Matthews and Mark Gibbs. Participants that completed the program were awarded $25 Visa gift cards and certificates of completion, as well as numerous prizes throughout the day.

Meriwest Credit Union, San Jose, Calif., announced the winners of its 2007 Essay Contest. The topic was "How important is good credit and how will you manage it in your life after high school?" First place winners were: 12th Grade Lorraine J. of San Jose, Calif., 11th Grade Wesley L. of Milpitas, Calif., 10th Grade Daniel F. of Tucson, Ariz., and 9th Grade Jenna G. of Los Gatos, Calif.

DuPont Community Credit Union, Waynesboro, Va., will award $1,000 scholarships to 19 high school students at the DCCU Annual Meeting in April. High school seniors at public high schools in the DCCU service area, local private schools, and home-schooled students were eligible for the scholarship. Students were required to complete a one-page application and write on an assigned essay topic.
