WASHINGTON — Representative Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), an opponent of credit unions on a number of issues, told today's hearing before the House Financial Service Committee regulatory reform for credit unions that he has become a member of a credit union. “But don't get your hopes up too much, he told some credit union members he recognized from his district who were in the hearing room, “I haven't co-sponsored CURIA.”
Hensarling said he has an open mind, but not an empty mind on the issues before the committee and he expressed hope that there was sufficient common ground in the Credit Union Regulatory Reform Act, the new measure which contains much of what CURIA contains but without the most controversial elements, for him to support it.
