DONATIONS
Gerber Federal Credit Union, Fremont, Mich., employees donated to United Way for the second year. President/CEO John Buckley presented Andrew DeLong and Chuck Whitman from United Way of Lakeshore a check in the amount of $6,528. Employees who participated in the fundraising event received a certificate for one hour of paid time off and an additional certificate for two hours of paid time off for reaching the pledge goal of $4,000.
Cabrillo Credit Union and partners Carlsbad City Credit Union and Sharp Credit Union, San Diego, raised over $1,600 to donate to the San Diego Disaster Relief fund. The fund was established by the American Red Cross to provide aid to the victims of the wildfire in San Diego County. Credit union employees who donated were rewarded with casual dress during the month of December.

Clearview Federal Credit Union, Moon Township, Pa., sponsored a Central Blood Bank blood drive on Nov. 12. Employees donated 24 units of blood to the Central Blood Bank at the credit union's main office. Clearview FCU holds four Central Blood Bank drives every year.
Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union, Methuen, Mass., hosted a silent auction at their grand opening of their new Methuen branch. The Methuen Arlington Neighborhood, Inc. was selected as the recipient of the fundraiser and received a check for $2,500 from JDCU.
AWARDS
Belvoir Federal Credit Union, Woodbridge, Va., has several staff members who have earned certificates and awards. Courtney Brown completed the Bankruptcy, Loan Officer, Consumer Lending certificates and was awarded the Lincoln and Jackson Awards. Isabel Thomas received the Jackson Award. Phyl Johnson completed the Professional Development Certificate. Aynalem Tadesse completed the Credit Unions Certificate. Suh Kolb and Melanie Rabs both completed the Introduction to Credit Unions Certificate.
US Federal Credit Union, Burnsville, Minn., was the first-place recipient of the national Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action for their commitment to the "People Helping People" philosophy. The award honors credit unions for their demonstration and application of credit union service philosophy and is sponsored by the Minnesota Credit Union Network and CUNA & Affiliates. USFCU received the award as a result of their work with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, which is a free tax preparation service, offered to low income individuals.
Education Employees Credit Union, Forth Worth, Texas, presented the first annual TCU Inspirational Professor Award to Dr. Phil Hartman, professor of biology at Texas Christian University. The award is given to the professor who has most inspired TCU students to be better scholars and people. Ten professors were nominated by TCU Provost and the Student Government Association and students voted for the winner.
Security Service Federal Credit Union, San Antonio, senior vice president and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's South Texas Chapter President Mike Martinez accepted the Corporate Platinum Award, which is the society's highest honor. Security Service raised more than $56,000 during the society's 2007 "Light the Night" walk. Security Service has received the award all five years they have been involved with the walk and has contributed more than $220,000 to the society. Also, Security Service President and CEO David E. Reynolds presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Maria Langston for her loyalty to the credit union and to welcome her back after a three-year assignment to the United States Air Force. Langston recently returned to her senior member service officer position at the credit union after being called to active duty in 2004.
