WASHINGTON — As Credit Union Development Educators and credit union supporters flow into Washington for CUNA's Government Affairs Conference this year, they will find an opportunity to help meet the practical needs of hungry people.
Development Educators Melissa Farley and Carla Decker, respectively the CEOs of MB Consulting in Lynchburg, Va. and the District Government Employees Federal Credit Union in Washington, D.C., are organizing an event for between 9:00 am and 12:00 noon on Sunday, March 2.
Development Educator volunteers will pack 15,000 meals during that time, according to the organizers. Each meal will cost 20 cents and consist of “dehydrated, fortified rice-soy meals containing over 20 vitamins and minerals especially formulated for the undernourished,” they said, adding that the meals will be vacuum-sealed in bags that can be stored for up to five years.
They are also seeking contributions to pay for the cost of the meals. Details about their effort can be found at their website www.stophungernow.org.
