VIENNA, Va. — There is only one credit union that made the FORTUNE 2008 list of "100 Best Companies to Work For"–Navy Federal Credit Union.
Navy Federal ranked 78th on a list that included such companies as Google, SAS, Cisco Systems and Starbucks.
FORTUNE recognized the world's largest credit union for increasing its workforce by 33% over the past two years, and never engaging in subprime lending.

To identify the top 100 companies, FORTUNE works with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct a survey of randomly selected employees. Survey results account for two-thirds of a company's overall score. The remaining one third of the scoring is based on responses to detailed questions about pay and benefits programs and a series of open-ended questions about hiring practices, methods of internal communications, training, recognition programs, and diversity initiatives.
