OGDEN, Utah — Authorities have charged a member of one credit union with a robbery of another credit union's branch and credit an observant teller and shared branch transaction for catching him.
Federal authorities allege a member of the $501 million Cyprus Federal Credit Union, headquartered in West Jordan, Utah, robbed a branch of the $580 million Goldenwest Credit Federal Credit Union.
Shelly Clarke, president/CEO of Goldenwest, largely confirmed a media account of the incident in which the Cyprus member, identified by police as Elrachio Naguan Craig, allegedly approached a teller with a note demanding she hand over the money in the drawer and stated he didn't want any "funny money or you will die," federal authorities said.

The teller handed over $1,176 from the drawer and Craig fled the credit union, according to the media report.
But authorities caught up with Craig because he had approached the same teller the previous week for a shared branch transaction and the teller remembered the Cyprus transaction, Clarke confirmed. Authorities found the transaction from the previous week and identified Craig from that transaction, according to media reports. The media also reported that Craig allegedly admitted the robbery when confronted.
