ARVADA, Colo. — As part of a shakeup of its lobbying and advocacy activities, the Colorado and Wyoming Credit Union Associations have hired Timothy Dore, executive director of the Colorado Catholic Conference of Denver as senior vice president of government affairs.
He succeeds Peter Kirchhof, who has held the job last three years and will continue working for the two leagues as a contract lobbyist for the Denver firm of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Shreck.
"Pete Kirchhof has built one of the best advocacy departments of any league anywhere in the United States," said John Dill, president/CEO. "His day-to-day management of the department will be missed, but I am pleased that Pete will count credit unions as one of his prime clients in his new capacity."

Dore, 34, who served as a top campaign staffer for former Senator Bill Bradley's (D) presidential bid, has served for the last five years as the chief lobbyist for the conference which represents the Archbishop of Denver, and the Bishops of Colorado Springs and Pueblo. Dore, a lawyer, previously did contract work for mortgage and investment firms.
The league said also it has taken several key steps to strengthen its lobbying and grassroots programming with the hiring a year ago of Chris Kemm, a former staffer for the American Federation of Government Employees. The league has also made changes in fundraising initiatives and staffing.
Dill praised Kemm, a former Colorado AFL-CIO vice president and U.S. Mint union president, for his skill in grassroots organizing who now has become "a national credit union expert" in the field. In his American Federation job, he served a 13-state area.
Noting other progress in 2007, the league said it has doubled the number of Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act (H.R. 1537) co-sponsors in the Colorado delegation from three to six including the deputy House Democratic whip.
In Wyoming, the league said there are new education efforts aimed at the state's freshman U.S. Senator John Barrasso, a Republican. Barrasso replaced Craig Thomas (R-Wyo.) who died in office in 2007.
Regarding Dore's background, the league noted that he has also served as a government affairs officer at Hammer Financial Corp. and was regional communications director for the Bradley for President campaign. He also has done work for the Colorado Association of Commerce and Industry.
