Scott Credit Union, Collinsville, Ill., recently raised over $700 to purchase non-perishable food and other items to support the local AdoptaPlatoon organization. The money was raised during an employee dress down day at the credit union.

This is the second year that the credit union has supported the AdoptaPlatoon organization, which provides support to military men and women stationed in Iraq and other parts of the world. The non-perishable food and other items purchased were donated to Marcia Fish of Collinsville who has been sending items overseas through AdoptaPlatoon since 2004.

"We were excited about the opportunity to help provide things to the soldiers," said Scott Credit Union Vice President, Adam Koishor. "Our staff was excited about donating to the fundraiser for the dress down day and as always our members were very giving. It is our way of showing our support of our troops and in time for the upcoming holiday season."

Redwood Credit Union, Santa Rosa, Calif.,

volunteered at Harvest for the Hungry Garden, a non-profit organization that grows and distributes over 10,000 pounds of organic fresh produce, herbs, and flowers to shelters and food banks through out the county.

A group of 35 volunteers from the credit union weeded, mulched, piled compost, raked, and sowed at the garden as part of "National Make A Difference Day." The group of volunteers included RCU officials, employees, and their families.

"It's very rewarding to participate in events like National Make a Difference Day," said RCU President and CEO, Brett Martinez, who was among the volunteers. "While RCU offers financial and leadership support to many local non-profits, making a hands-on difference through volunteering truly demonstrates the impact we can have toward improving our communities."

Aside from volunteering annually for "National Make a Difference Day," RCU is actively involved in community programs throughout the year, which include, Human Race, Day of Caring, Salvation Army Toy and Food Drives, and United Way.

FedChoice Federal Credit Union, Washington, donated $579 to Passionately Pink for the Cure for the fourth year in a row. In total, FedChoice has raised $1,569 over four years for Passionately Pink for the Cure.

Employees that donated money were allowed to wear jeans on a designated day, along with a Passionately Pink for the Cure?,,? pin.

"Breast cancer affects millions of people, including our families, friends, co-workers and the members we come in contact with everyday," said FedChoice HR Manager, Susan Barnes. "And we're proud to do our part."

Eastern Financial Florida Credit Union, Miramar, Fla., hosted the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce annual holiday party at their Miami Springs branch. About 70 local businesses donated unwrapped gifts of toys, diapers and personal grooming items.

The items collected are donated to residents of the Miami Rescue Mission Center for Women and Children. The center is a haven for homeless women and children and provides emergency overnight shelter as well as a long-term recovery program.

Members Advantage Credit Union, Michigan City, Ind., donated $500 to Dunebrook: Prevent Child Abuse of LaPorte County.

Dunebrook is an advocacy program that increases community awareness of child abuse and neglect. They are in the final weeks of their matching campaign to raise $200,000 in their endowment by Dec. 31.

"Dunebrook is simply an outstanding resource for the community," said Members Advantage Credit Union President, Frank Beachnau. "On behalf of everyone at Members Advantage, I just want to extend my appreciation for all that they do."
