Boulder Valley Credit Union, Broomfield, Colo., proudly sponsored the Alive at 25 program at Broomfield High School recently. This program helps educate young drivers on the attitude of driving and riding in cars to reduce teenage auto related fatalities. The all-school assembly was attended by Boulder Valley School District Superintendent Dr. Garcia and a District Board member Jean Paxton. The program featured a high-impact, multi-media presentation, a presentation from a parent who lost her teenager in a car crash, a compelling message from a Westminster Police Officer who has worked fatal car crash scenes, and an exhibit of a crashed car for students to view. The National Safety Council recognized Colorado's Alive at 25 program as the most improved program in America to dramatically reduce teen auto accidents; the number one cause of deaths in people age 15-25. The Caitlyn Craig Foundation is a group of volunteers with a mission to reduce teenage auto related fatalities by providing educational opportunities to students. The Caitlyn Craig Foundation was formed following the deaths of Caitlyn Craig, Brian Ellsworth and Michael Heykoop on February 28, 2003. The kids, ages 15, 14 and 15 respectively, were killed when the driver of the car made the choice to exceed the speed limit by 45 mph with 7 kids in a car that only had 5 seatbelts, and the driver disregarded several requests of the passengers to slow down.
Pen Air Federal Credit Union, Pensacola, Fla., recently held the 7th Annual Pen Air FCU Membership Appreciation Golf Tournament to benefit the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Golf Tournament at the A.C. Read Golf Club on board NAS-Pensacola. Pen Air FCU presented $45,000 to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, which offers financial and counseling support to military families. The funds raised are used right away in the form of interest free loans to military personnel and their families. This helps keep military personnel focused on their jobs rather than their financial condition, and in turn, makes for a more ready military force. Over the past seven years, Pen Air FCU has raised well over $208,000 for this great cause. The 2007 Pen Air FCU Member Appreciation Golf Tournament was a huge success with the maximum 128 players allowed on the course showing up to play and support the cause and win prizes such as cash, a car "hole in one" prize sponsored by Sandy Sansing, and golf equipment. Many community businesses showed their support through various sponsorship levels. Pen Air FCU also received a grant from the Armed Forces Financial Network (AFFN) for $1,500 toward the event. The credit union thanked CDR R. Wesley Farr and Lt. Kevin Regenhold, for their support and volunteers. Due to the huge success, Pen Air Federal Credit Union plans on continuing hosting this Annual fundraiser.
