MADISON, Wis. — Following up on a surprise offer from Wisconsin bankers to help solve a Sept. 26 credit union kidnap/robbery, the Wisconsin Credit Union League announced today it also is offering a $10,000 reward for leads on the crime which took place at a Racine branch of a Milwaukee CU.

The league, which yesterday thanked the Wisconsin Bankers Association for a similar $10,000 reward offer, said the funds would go toward arresting and convicting the perpetrators of the kidnap and robbery of a Landmark CU employee and her son

Taking note of the rare co-operation between banks and CUs, Brett Thompson, president/CEO of the league, said in a statement the WBA offer "acknowledges that as financial institutions we're all vulnerable when it comes to security."

He added, "We'll do whatever we can to stop these criminals and reassure the members of credit unions and the customers of banks that their safety is paramount."

Thompson also said consumers should be reassured that despite the efforts of thieves, "keeping money in a federally insured account remains the safest option available."
