The USGBC is a nonprofit organization composed of leaders from every sector of the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work.

According to IBT it is one of the first design/build providers with a focus on financial services to have USGBC standing.

"The documented impact buildings have on the environment is considerable," said Mylle Mangum, CEO of IBT. "Designing and constructing facilities that adhere to sustainable build and operational principles helps fulfill our clients' desire for meaningful, substantive and long term community involvement. This allows our clients to both reduce their daily impact on the environment, and enjoy lowered operational costs over the life of the building."

The USGBC reports that U.S. buildings are responsible for 12% of the nation's water use, 36% of green house gases, 40% of solid waste and 70% of the nation's electricity consumption. By contrast, green buildings can save 30 to

50% energy, 38% of CO2 emissions, 40% of

water and 70% of solid waste.

In addition, a recent report finds there is no significant difference in average development costs for green buildings as compared to non-green buildings and most green buildings recoup any extra expenditure through increased energy efficiency in less than five years.

"The transformation of the building marketplace can be measured through the people who are a part of it," said Heather Tomlinson, vice president of community for USGBC. "We welcome IBT Enterprises into our diverse, 11,000-plus membership base, and look forward to working with them in the future."

To further its green initiative, IBT's design and architectural team has also begun the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design accreditation process, with nearly 50% of IBT's designers already having achieved Accredited Professional status.

LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.

"IBT continues to be at the forefront of the industry, and we are excited to add this important design/build approach to our scope of services," said Mangum.

CINCINNATI — Design/build and strategic consulting firm DEI Incorporated has recently added Arp D. Trivedi to the management staff as the vice president of strategic planning.

Trivedi will work with DEI's existing strategic consultants to refine current offerings, develop client services, and provide DEI executives and sales staff with information to continue DEI's growth.

"We look forward to working with Arp," said DEI Vice President of Sales Neil K. Kool. "His background and experience as a consultant in the financial industry will provide valuable information to our clients and to DEI."

With nearly 20 years of experience in the design/build and financial services industries, Trivedi comes to DEI from LEVEL5, LLC where he was a senior consultant providing marketplace, operations and financial consultancy to clients.

Trivedi began his design/build career at KDA Holdings, Inc. as an operations consultant on the financial division. Later he moved on to the director of operations of the health care division. He was eventually promoted to director of strategy. Prior to this, Trivedi spent nearly a decade with SunTrust Bank in various

Changes in Desert Schools Facilities Department

PHOENIX — Desert Schools Federal Credit Union has reshuffled its facilities department.

"Rapid growth and a phased approach to streamlining efficiencies are the primary reasons behind the changes," said Rich Farrell, senior director of facilities.

Farrell said the management of more than 340,000 square feet of building space is a challenge across 61 branches, including the institution's six-story Arizona headquarters.

To keep pace with expanding operations and maintenance activities, the

credit union has reorganized its facilities department and announced the following promotions.

Roy Pierce has been named director of facilities. Pierce joined the department in 1998 as senior technician and has held the positions of department supervisor and manager. He will now oversee day-to-day operations.

Now Maintenance Manager John Munoz joined the department in 2002 and

has been instrumental in developing a proactive maintenance and housekeeping program.

Also promoted is Operations Manager Rob Jackson who joined the

department in 1996 to manage the telecommunications system. In his new position he will manage building operations as well as the credit union's energy management systems.

Brenda Sharpless has been promoted to operations supervisor. Sharpless has been with Desert Schools for 20 years and up until last September spent her time working in the branches. She will now work on increasing operational efficiencies.

In addition, Cesar Fernandez, promoted to senior technician, will provide training and support to an expanding staff of technicians. Fernandez joined Desert Schools in 2006 as the Papago building technician.
