NUTLEY, N.J. — After more than 30 years of service, Jim McKittrick retired as president/CEO of Proponent Federal Credit Union on Sept. 1.

In a recent letter to members, McKittrick said "there comes a point in life when you realize that it is time to step aside and enjoy the rest that life has to offer." During McKittrick's tenure, Proponent grew to $400 million in assets and nearly 25,000 members.

"Proponent Federal Credit Union has come a long way over the past 35 years and we could not have made it without the dedication and efforts of all the volunteers, staff, and most importantly [the members]," McKittrick said. "I have had the privilege of leading our wonderful credit union for the past 30 plus years and I have enjoyed every minute of it–okay, almost every minute of it!"

Debi Van Dorn, who has also been with Proponent for 30 years, has been named the new president/CEO. A "great example of growth from within," Van Dorn started as a teller right out of college with Proponent moving up the lending ranks to vice president of lending and in recent years, providing leadership in business development, branch services, marketing, and information technology. She has also directed projects including the credit union's re-branding and name change and data processing conversion, according to Proponent.

McKittrick said Van Dorn will have the support of "the finest strategic leadership team anywhere."

"[Together], through the efforts and dedication of the credit union staff, [they] will continue to make Proponent the high performing credit union that understands and meets its members' needs," McKittrick said.
