FINDLAY, Ohio — With floodwaters receding today, Findlay's three credit unions appeared to have been spared major damage from this week's torrential rains as CU-backed programs have already been started to collect donations to aid flood victims.

"We did have two of our staff people who had to evacuate their homes but our offices are open," said Karen Reams, president/CEO of the $26 million Millstream Area Credit Union.

Reams, who also is president of the Western Buckeye Chapter of the Ohio Credit Union League, said she has made contact with one other CU, Hancock Federal Credit Union though "I haven't been able to get through to Clyde-Findlay Area," the city's largest at $80 million. A vast stretch of Findlay including its downtown was flooded "and no way to get through today," said Reams.

Meanwhile, in central Wisconsin the $210 million Marine Credit Union of Fond du Lac said it was setting aside $1 million 0% interest loans for flood victims with funds earmarked for cleanup supplies or temporary housing. The CU said it is limiting the loans to $5,000 per borrower and was offering them on a first come, first serve basis. The CU also said that "no payments will be required for the first four months of the loan."
