WOODBURN, Ore. — MaPS Credit Union has opened its latest branch in Woodburn.

The facility features five teller stations, two drive-up lanes, a drive-up ATM and a self-service coin counting machine. The coin counting machine is free to members and charges a low 5% fee to nonmembers. Staff includes representatives who are fluent in Spanish and Russian.

The branch also includes a Smart Cash office, which offers alternative financial services, such as check cashing, international transfers and bill payment, to members of the community who do not have a membership in a credit union or an account at a bank. MaPS Insurance Services is also located within the branch to provide comprehensive personal and commercial insurance services.

More than 75 members, board members, staff and local residents attended a ribbon cutting ceremony.

"We hope you find having a full-service credit union in Woodburn will give all citizens an opportunity to share in improving their financial future as we offer financial education classes, support the schools and mature citizens, sponsor chamber programs and help other organizations who work to build a stronger economy in the greater Woodburn community," said MaPS Credit Union President/CEO Dan Penn upon welcoming attendees.

Penn closed the ceremony by cutting the ribbon, bedecked in $100 cash. MaPS donated the ribbon to Woodburn's Aware Food Bank to support their work for the community. Stonerock presented the ribbon to Ward Hershberger, Chairman of the Board of the food bank.

"Through Marion-Polk Food Share," said Aware Food Bank Board Chairman Ward Hershberger. "We pay approximately seven cents a pound for food. If you divide $100 by seven cents, you see that this donation will buy a lot of food."

It is estimated the donation will buy over 1,400 pounds of food to help feed many needy families in the area.

Other grand opening specials and festivities included a barbecue and a soccer clinic for youth ages 6-11.
