COLUMBIA, Md. — Interns with the African-American Credit Union Coalition's internship program were recently special guests at the Maryland & District of Columbia Credit Union Association here.
The day began with Jennifer Gore, MDDCCUA vice president of federal and District of Columbia governmental affairs, giving a lesson on the history of the credit movement. Dawn Johnson, manager of business services, conducted a lively discussion on dress code, according to the association.
“I believe any effort that we can make to assist young people in identifying credit unions as a unique place to work because of their philosophy is great work,” said Michael Beall, president/CEO of MDDCCUA. “[The association] is always proud to stand as a supporter and partner with AACUC on their internship program.”
The AACUC's internship program pairs more than 35 college juniors and seniors with credit unions, leagues, Fannie Mae, trade groups and other entities in the industry for a 8-10 week summer learning experience. Since the program launched several years ago more than 250 college students have gone through AACUC's internship program and nearly 30 interns have secured full-time positions within the credit union industry including at Navy FCU, Houston Municipal CU, State Employees CU of Maryland, Georgia Power CU, Aberdeen Proving Ground FCU, Municipal CU and Atlanta City Employees CU.
