ARLINGTON, Va. -- While NAFCU Director of Planning, Programming,and Special Projects Joe Boyle has many things he is lookingforward to enjoying in retirement after 17-plus years with theorganization, he said that he will also miss a lot, particularlysome of the relationships he has built in the credit unioncommunity.

"I've enjoyed my time at NAFCU, which serves the credit unioncommunity. That has been a motivation for me to come into workevery day and kept me pumped up," he said. But, with a newgrandson, Aidan, and an itch to travel the world with his wife,Boyle decided it was time for him to retire for the second time. Hepreviously retired from the Marine Corps in 1989 after 21years.

His last day at NAFCU will be July 27 after wrapping up NAFCU'sbig 40th Annual Conference July 17-21 in Honolulu.

For most of his tenure, Boyle has been responsible for boardelections, the Defense Credit Union Summit during NAFCU's AnnualConference, and created the organization's disaster recovery planamong many other things. In the last couple of years Boyle oversawa major, two-year review that "revamped and streamlined" NAFCUBoard policies and a similar review of the bylaws in the late1990s.

Upon retiring, Boyle looks forward to a month in Cape Cod withhis family. He also said he wants to catch up on some reading andplay with his grandson who lives just a few miles away. After that,it will be on to Australia and New Zealand for nearly two months inwith his wife, Diane. Italy and France are two other stops in theirfuture, he said.

An avid runner, Boyle hopes to have more time to devote to thesport as well as becoming a formidable tennis partner for hiswife.

He is also currently active in the Marine Executive Association,which helps Marines transition from military service to other jobs."They helped me tremendously when I came out in 1989," Boylerecalled.

Boyle said NAFCU was a "great opportunity" and everydaysomething "reinforces that credit unions do a terrific job ofserving their members and I've been pleased and honored to be apart." Boyle knows that first hand too having "always" been amember of Navy Federal Credit Union and others since.
