ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Federal credit unions continue to add underserved areas at an anemic rate in the second quarter. So far this year, according to the NCUA, 36 credit unions have added 45 underserved areas, representing a potential 5.8 million additional possible members.

This is roughly on track with last year, which saw 74 credit unions add 97 underserved areas with a potential 17.4 million potential credit union members. But the number still sharply lag 2005 which saw 117 credit unions add 179 underserved areas with 24.6 million potential credit union members.
