WILMINGTON, N.C. — With credit unions staring down many challenges, there's no question that leadership can make or break a credit union.
Finding good leaders isn't easy, but Glatt Consulting, LLC is hoping to not only find great leaders, but use what it learns from them in a new credit union leadership book.
The firm has launched its 2007 Credit Union Leadership Challenge, running from July 17 to Oct. 17, looking for four top credit union executives. It is open to any executive who manages a staff of one or more. The top four will win a paid trip to Wrightsville Beach, N.C. and will be featured in a book

detailing the results of the leadership challenge.
"The credit union movement has never been more challenged. At the same time, however, the movement has never seen such a vast sea of opportunity. The key to whether the movement meets the challenges at hand, and successfully capitalizes on available opportunities is the quality and depth of credit union leaders," said Tom Glatt Jr., son of Continental Federal Credit Union CEO Tom Glatt Sr.
Candidates will complete an online leadership assessment questionnaire. An assessment system will generate a Leadership Performance Index score, which will help narrow down the field. Telephone interviews will also be done. Other areas to be considered include various performance areas of the credit union, including ROA, asset growth, earnings and liquidity, though these will be less weighted than the LPI.
